Some Comments on the Lindzen and Choi (2009) Feedback Study
I keep getting requests to comment on the recent GRL paper by Lindzen and Choi (2009), who computed how satellite-measured net (solar + infrared) radiation in the tropics varied with surface temperature changes over the 15 year period of record of the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite (ERBS, ...

Spencer on Lindzen & Choi
The Reference Frame — ... the Earth initially reduces its heat radiation, at least initially. That would clearly lead to an even higher warming and the temperature would start to diverge from the previous equilibrium exponentially: a classical unstable runaway behavior. It would be somewhat surprising if the models suffered from such an obvious flaw. Roy Spencer offers his wisdom Yesterday, Roy Spencer wrote his comments on the paper by Lindzen and Choi, Some Comments on the Lindzen and Choi (2009) Feedback Study. He ...

Roy Spencer debunks LIndzen and Choi
James' Empty Blog — ... Roy Spencer has weighed in here (thanks tb) with some analysis of the Lindzen and Choi study that I briefly covered before. It seems that RS has investigated the difference between CMIP (coupled atmosphere-ocean) and AMIP (atmosphere with prescribed sea surface temperature) runs and found that they give completely different answers. In other words, the analysis of AMIP output that LC performed is not relevant to diagnosing the properties of the fully coupled climate system. Which is what I suspected but had not checked. RS also has various other criticisms about how the ...

Lousy feedback analogy
scienceblogs.com 7/21/2009 — It has come up in the comments a couple of times now, so I would like to state for the record that the following is a lousy analogy of a negative feedback.
